We often hear the argument that Open Access increases the impact and value of research, and there are considerable bodies of data now to substantiate these claims. But what kind of impact, what kind of value, and who benefits? I will present both an overview of these issues and some case studies to show that there are many beneficiaries and that the benefits of Open Access can accrue to a wide range of people and in many ways.
