Attention Based Economies -
the Economic Value of Google Scholar and Co.


The presentation will discuss the implications of Google Scholar and Co. for users, societies, libraries and publishing houses, exploring the impact, options and risks of making information, data, and knowledge available via information retrieval systems; focusing on the transition of cultural values into economic assets, paying special attention to the economic value of information in attention based economies.

The presentation will provide a brief overview of the search engine and information retrieval markets, landscapes, and business models; explore the changing roles of publishers and libraries within networked societies; analyse the motivations and operating procedures of knowledge production, archival, management and marketing; and discuss the interests of users, societies, as well as publishing houses.
